Procedure Description

Endovenous Laser Therapy Procedure

Endovenous Laser Therapy Springfield MODr. Bailey will identify the refluxing veins, during the procedure, with an ultrasound device. Local anesthetic is then used to minimize the patient’s discomfort. Once the laser fiber (inserted through a small needle into the abnormal vein) is in correct position, the laser is turned on. Heat from the laser then seals the vein closed as the fiber is withdrawn. Patients are left with only a 1 millimeter puncture. After the procedure, the patient’s blood will automatically be rerouted into the healthy veins with properly working valves.

Results and recovery

Most patients experience mild tenderness and slight bruising after the EVLT procedure, simply treated with Ibuprofen or other over the counter anti – inflammatory medicine. The next day patients return to work and normal activities. Occasionally, patients have reported a mild tingling sensation along the course of the vein.
